Trivia night raises money for medical treatment | New

SAWYER — A quiz fundraiser on June 17 at Trinity Lutheran Church in Sawyer raised more than $10,000 to help Cyndy Priest pay for stem cell therapy in Mexico.

Cyndy was diagnosed with chronic inflammatory demyelinating polyneuropathy (CIDP), an autoimmune disease similar to MS.

Thirteen teams signed up to play that night. The suggested donation was $20 per person or $200 per team. Special auction games, a silent auction, the purchase of homemade desserts and a 50/50 raffle are some of the additional activities that helped raise funds. Money also continued to be given after the event on Cyndy’s Go-Fund-Me page.

CIDP affected Cyndy’s right leg and foot muscles. Walking became increasingly difficult for her. She is currently receiving IVIG plasma infusions and numerous immunosuppressants which do not slow her progression. After much research and thought, Cyndy has decided to undergo Autologous Hematopoietic Stem Cell Transplantation (aHSCT) which will be performed in Mexico by doctors trained at the Mayo Clinic. There have been many successful trials, while the treatment is awaiting approval in the United States

The quiz questions were delivered by Ed and Linda Wendholt, who are experienced quiz hosts.
