Yoga Day: FG stresses the importance of alternative medicine

Health Minister Dr Osagie Ehanire said the federal government is committed to developing and promoting the practice of complementary and alternative medicine in the country.

He said so in Abuja at an event marking the eighth United Nations International Yoga Day.

Represented by the Ministry’s Deputy Director of Traditional and Complementary Medicine Department, Mr. Titus Tile, the Minister said the importance of yoga stems from its health benefits, hence the global acceptance of the act.

Acting Indian High Commissioner to Nigeria, VSDL Surendra, said yoga is a way to discover the meaning of oneness with oneself, the world and nature by making healthier choices and following fashions. lifestyles that promote good health.

He explained that India has over fifty thousand Nigerian citizens who are happy and exchange cultures and orientations.

The United Nations passed a resolution in 2015, declaring June 21 each year as International Yoga Day, aimed at raising awareness around the world of the many benefits of practicing yoga.
